New Lens! :D

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 2, 2011, 12:34 AM
Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS
I just bought a new walkabout zoom lens.

I originally bought a second hand Canon 75-300mm non IS el-cheapo zoom lens when I bought my 550D but have very rarely used it as its really pretty average! I've been thinking of replacing it with something a little better but could not justify spending $1300 on the Canon 70-200mm f4L.  I've got the Canon EF-S 10-22mm Wide Angle, and the Canon EF-S 17-85mm so really just needed a zoom...After reading almost every review for almost every budget zoom lens I decided on the Sigma 18-200 OS. I tried out the Sigma 18-250mm on a 550D in store and it felt really solid so hopefully my lens will be the same! I should get it by the end of this week as I bought it from DigitalRev for $380! Not a bad price I thought :D Especially compared with something like the Canon 55-250 lens ($210 online), which is quite good optically but doesn't have that wide angle range...
I realise this is not an amazing lens optically but for the price and for the amount of use it'll really get I cant complain!
Has anyone used this lens and have any comments or critiques?

Here's the lens info: [link]

Yeah I wish i could! So would you go for the 2.8 non IS over the 4.0 IS? Its a lot of money though and I think the missus would give me an earful if I came home with a flashy lens like that ;p The Sigma is great just because of the focal range but the images are fairly sofy, especially in the corners. But for the money I suppose its not that bad ;p

Yeah cant go wrong with digitalrev, bought the Sigma there...I just cant get over how the f4 IS is twice the price of the f4 non IS! But I suppose you get what you pay for! One day hopefully ;p

Although the canon kit lenses are super sharp for the price range, build quality is the only thing letting them donw but the 55-250 is a great lens ;p

I know what you mean, there's so many lenses I'd like to get my hands on...Thinking of selling my EF-S 17-85 and saving up for either the EF-S 15-85 or the EF 24-105L...a man can dream! haha

Tell me about it, I got rid of my 75-300 just because it has no IS! Not the best lens but without the IS its not even usable...
